The United States is no longer the nation with the largest number of internet users. China overtook the US last month in users for the first time, according to the state-run China Internet Network Information Center.

Researcher BDA China Ltd. estimates there are now over 220 million internet users  in China, compared with 217.1 million in the U.S. Online ad revenue continues to lag in China, however, totaling $1.3 billion in 2007 compared to e-Marketer estimates of $21.4 billion in America.

Maybe it’s time for me to start promoting the Chinesse translation of my blog.

Average per capita of internet users are always mysteriously omitted in articles heralding the growing Chinese internet market…

A billion poor people paying pennies at neighborhood LAN centers is only worth so much.

I guess it’s not really surprising that China has more internet users than the U.S. considering the size of their population. It was probably inevitable at some point. The really interesting question is how the Chinese government will be able to censor the web content accessed by all those users.

I suppose this is not surprising. Though, the government still restricts access to some information/sites. Wonder when/if that might change?

    I say, start translating! :)

It is exciting to read this message. It is the tendency that investors can get more and more online ad revenues from the internet market in China. So we need to begin from now on to be an earlier bird to occupy more market share.:)

First!!! That would make sense though since there’s more people in China. Also they put more money in education so kids are able to use the computer at a younger age. It won’t be long before other countries catch up.

Wow, that sounds unbelievable, that china has over taken the US in internet Network. Many chinese products are sold on net for their easy propaganda and bringing close to the people.

With 1+ billion people it’s not suprising that China has over taken the US in internet users. The gap will only widen.
